Love it. I hear the Jung simmering through all this. I agree wholeheartedly. Men need to be shown that it's OK to be vulnerable, to cry, to show emotion. Many women, as you said, want "men to be men" in a traditional and therefore limiting way. I myself am, pun intended, an "odd man out." Always have been. I am traditionally masculine in many ways, but I'm also highly emotional in a certain sense, and definitely very sensitive. Most of my closest platonic friends are women. I am closest with my mom and my wife. Yet I connect more intellectually, generally speaking with men (not always, for sure, but often). It's an interesting topic. Your ideas of the inner opposites, yin and yang reminded me of Norman Mailer, who I've written about quite a lot on my stack. He talked a lot about "the psychopath and the saint" in each of us, the murderer and the victim, etc. Two sides, both very much necessary for psychological and spiritual survival. Dostoevsky comes to mind, too, especially Crime and Punishment. Anyway, solid piece.
